Location:

Bunica Maria is located only 200 meters from the Danube River bank (Sf.Gheorghe Arm), in the village of Mahmudia - a gateway to the Danube Delta Nature Reserve and bird paradise. The Danube Delta is the second largest river delta in Europe, after the Volga Delta, and is the best preserved on the continent. The greater part of the Danube Delta lies in Romania (Tulcea County), with a small part in Ukraine. Its approximate surface area is 4,152 km2, of which 3,446 km2 is in Romania. In the area, there are the Bestepe Hills (which translates “5 hills”), on top of which you can admire the entire panorama of the Danube Delta. You can enjoy birdwatching sessions on the river or around the beautiful lakes of Gorgova, Potcoava, Uzlina, Isac and many others. The lakes are also accessible by boat. The Danube Delta is home to 98% of Europe’s aquatic fauna (3400 species), including more than 330 bird species. Some of the non breeding species are wintering or passing through during spring and autumn migration.
