Matsalu Bay is one of the most important wetland bird areas in Europe due to its prime position on the East Atlantic Flyway. Large numbers of migratory birds use Matsalu as staging area. Matsalu National Park was created as a nature preservation area in 1957 in order to protect the natural and cultural heritage of Western-Estonia and Väinameri (part of the Baltic Sea). The national park comprises Matsalu Bay and its surrounding area with its islands; the north and south coast of the bay as well as the Kasari river delta.
Services: Tuulingu Guest House is an ideal birdwatching-base, suitable for small groups of 13 people, individual birdwatchers and wildlife photographers. For bird photography, both floating and hide on land are available. English speaking birding guide and early breakfast are available on request. Next to the House is Haeska birdwatching tower.
