Ichnilatis Cottage is a charming, well-appointed guesthouse located near the village of Koryfoudi, in Serres region. It is the perfect base for exploring Lake Kerkini (a Ramsar Site) and its surrounding plains and wooded hills. The largest national park in Greece and one of the top birding sites in Europe (over 300 species recorded), it is wonderful at any time of year (but especially during winter and migration periods), not only for birds but for a wealth of plants and other wildlife. Greater Flamingos and Dalmatian Pelicans are the main attractions of Kerkini, but there are also many other breeding birds including Pygmy Cormorants, grebes, herons and ducks, while Whiskered and Black Terns breed on patches of water lilies. In winter, Lesser White-fronted Geese, Spotted Eagles and even White-headed Ducks can be seen.
You will be very warmly welcome and treated at Ichnilatis. A reputable English-speaking bird guide is available on request, able to present current updates on bird activity around the lake and surrounding countryside. Transport, optics, tripods observation towers and boats are available on request. In addition, day excursions to the neighboring hills or around the lake by car or horse, or by boat to visit riparian forest and colonies of pelicans, herons and flamingos, with an experienced local escort, can be arranged at very reasonable rates. Packed lunch and dinner can be provided by prior arrangement to suit your needs and early breakfasts are served in the beautiful lounge. Local culinary specialties include water-buffalo meat.
There are 13 rooms, with a variety of beds available (single, twin and triple, double and large rooms (studio type) with two double and one single beds each). They are all spacious and airy, have en suite toilet and shower, free wireless internet connection, air conditioning, central heating, fridge, fireplace, TV, DVD and terrace.
