Location:
Hotel Hacienda El Santiscal is located in the historic city of Arcos de la Frontera, a major part of the ‘Pueblos Blancos’ (White Villages) route of Cádiz, and is one of the prettiest towns in Spain. The name ‘Santiscal’ originates from a Roman country villa discovered in the grounds of the Hacienda in the late nineteenth century. The Hacienda itself is a beautiful fortified building dating from the 15th century, perched high on a rock among a multitude of white houses, clustered together with a medieval castle. It has fantastic views over a lake and neighbouring nature park. Today Hacienda El Santiscal is a unique accommodation which, within its walls, testifies to the magnificent past of this romantic and legendary town that belonged to the Arab court of Medina Sidonia. Yet, the charm of the old manor house has not been lost, successfully adapting to modern times in order to become a green hotel, accredited by the Spanish Parque Natural de Andalucía and ECEAT.
Services:
Hacienda El Santiscal is very close to Grazalema Nature Park in the foothills of the Sierra del Santiscal mountain range. Here, the presence of Griffon, Egyptian Vulture and Bonelli’s Eagle attest to the quality of the birding habitats. A short distance to the west are Las Cabezas and Espera lagoons which hold Marbled Teal, White-headed Duck, Spanish Imperial Eagle and Red-knobbed Coot. Moreover, the world famous Coto Donana National Park is within easy reach of the Hacienda.
Guestrooms:
The hotel has 12 rooms, all air conditioned with individual remote control, plus facilities including a safe, ceiling fan, telephone, free wifi and well-furnished bathroom (hair dryer, towel heater, ecological dispensers, water saver and welcoming products). Since the hotel is a protected historical building, all the rooms are of individual character: they contain antiques, wooden ceiling-beams, Arab brick or earthenware tile-floors and panelled walls, all decorated in a cosy manner complementing the style of the house and imbuing it with simplicity, elegance and character. However, the hotel is not suitable for children.
